West Coast: Sóller, Valldemossa & Port d’Andratx

We leave the port in a comfortable minibus and climb north through the Sóller tunnel into a valley of orange and lemon groves ringed by the highest mountains on the island. Sóller itself is a small town of surprising grandeur — modernist façades built on citrus money, a Gaudí-school church, cafés under the plane trees. Ride the wooden tram of 1913 down to Port de Sóller, one of the best natural harbours in the Mediterranean.

Then along the coast road, a route that regularly appears in lists of the world’s best drives, to Valldemossa. Walk its stone streets, visit the Carthusian monastery where Chopin and George Sand spent the winter of 1838, and try the local coca de patata at the bakery on the corner.

The afternoon ends in Port d’Andratx, once a smugglers’ cove and now a quiet marina of pine-covered slopes and waterfront restaurants. Time for lunch, a swim in summer, or simply a coffee looking at the boats, before a 35-minute drive back to your ship.
